Oriana Singers, under the artistic leadership of Lynn Janes, is accepting applications for the position of an Apprenticeship Conductor for the 2026/2027 season.
This apprentice conductor educational project is designed to support an emerging choral conductor in the early stages of their career, particularly one who does not currently have access to a dedicated choir. The goal of the program is to provide the apprentice with coaching, mentoring, rehearsing and conducting opportunities with an established community choir in Northumberland County.
Responsibilities
• Learn all repertoire being sung by Oriana Singers for 2026/2027
• Attend all rehearsals and performances of Oriana Singers as a singing member.
• Rehearse and conduct Oriana Singers in sectional or full rehearsals, as requested by the Artistic Director.
• Conduct some repertoire in performance, at the request of the Artistic Director.
• Assist the Artistic Director with auditions throughout the season.
• Assist in sourcing and preparing scores as needed.
• Collaborate with the Artistic Director on artistic programming as requested.
Qualifications
• A Bachelor or Graduate degree in Music with experience in Choral Conducting/Voice performance
• Experience in conducting choral works, including masterpieces of the western choral canon.
• Fluency in both choral and orchestral score study.
• Highly developed aural skills.
• Proficiency at the keyboard.
• A clear understanding of vocal technique and the ability to communicate that knowledge.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
This is a one-season contract position (September to June) with remuneration of $5,000, paid $500.00 monthly.
The position starts September 2026.
